Ashley followed Nancy’s car across the length and breadth of the city in eager anticipation, but all her effort came to a disappointing end when the car came to a halt in front of a small building with an even smaller signboard of ‘Accent Interiors’ on top of it.
She waited until Nancy got inside the building and parked her car at a safe distance from the building. She got down and glanced around at the deserted street. A cafe at the opposite corner caught her eye. She got inside the cafe and took a table from where she could keep an eye on the building entrance.
She kept looking at her watch now and then while waiting in anticipation. An hour and three coffees later she finally saw Nancy stepping out of her office. She stopped at the bottom step while glancing nervously at her phone. She looked in a hurry and as soon as her car came out of the parking area, she got inside quickly.
Ashley paid the bill and kept looking at Nancy’s car. As soon as Nancy’s car turned at the corner of the street, she rushed to her car.
Nancy was able to get a head start, but Ashley was confident of catching up. However, she was wrong in her estimate. The afternoon traffic had started to build up slowly and as Ashley entered the main street, she lost the sight of Nancy’s car in the sea of vehicles.
“So much for keeping an eye on her,” she said and punched the steering wheel in anger.
She was disappointed, but she continued driving in Nancy’s direction. After hour and half of aimless driving, she finally stopped in front of ‘Lowe Construction’s’ office.
She was disappointed at her calculations coming wrong again. Nancy’s car wasn’t parked outside the building.
She started her car and as she was about to leave, she saw a car coming from behind through the rear-view mirror. She hid behind a magazine while keeping an eye on the car.
Daniel Lowe came out of the car as soon as it came to a halt and walked up the steps to the building main entrance. As he was about to push the door, his phone rang. He gazed at the screen for a moment before answering it. He spoke for a few seconds and then walked back to his car. He gave instructions to the driver before going back inside the building.
The car left at once. Ashley thought for a moment and turned on the ignition. However, as she was about to leave, she happened to glance at her phone lying on the passenger seat. A thought crossed her mind, and she turned off the ignition.
She sent a text to Sean and then went back looking at the building entrance. Each passing minute was feeling like an eternity and with Sean taking the time to respond, she was getting restless.
After ten minutes, her phone finally beeped. She unlocked the screen hurriedly and read the text.
‘Nothing to lose – Sean’
She took a deep breath and got out of the car.
